MP Paul Chiang has embarked on quite a journey prior to entering politics. Arriving to Toronto in 1976, he began humbly in the Canadian workforce, working for, operating, and later owning various businesses. However, his real career prospects started in the police force, where he proudly served for 28 years. His dedication to increase the representation of women and visible minorities within the force, and his work on Diversity and Hate crimes was a result of his commitment to create positive change at every level, a value he embodies to this day. MP Chiang is proud to protect the very values that drew him to Canada – peace, stability, and prosperity.
MP Chiang’s desire for wanting better for his community did not stop upon his retirement. At age 60, he became the MP for Markham-Unionville and was immediately appointed as Parliamentary Secretary of Diversity and Inclusion, where he worked on various diversity related initiatives, including Canada’s first ever National Action Plan to Combat Hate. Today, he serves as the Parliamentary Secretary of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, a title apt for he is a proud immigrant to Canada himself. Now, he is focused on strengthening and improving equity within Canada’s immigration system, as well his home community of Markham-Unionville. MP Chiang continues to serve the residents of his riding, grateful for the honour and privilege to continue serving the community he calls home.
