BRIDGETOWN: The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has announced a new sponsorship and partnership deal with JetBlue Airways. The airline, based in New York City, is the official partner for the 2015 Series of International Cricket.

The season of international cricket featured three Tests between West Indies and England for the Wisden Trophy, which concluded on Tuesday. In June, the season will resume with two Tests between West Indies and Australia for the Frank Worrell Trophy.

WICB’s commercial manager, Nelecia Yeates, hailed the new agreement as a step forward for the airline in the Caribbean, as well as a boost for the region.

“We at the WICB are delighted to welcome JetBlue to the beautiful shores of the Caribbean and to the wonderful game of cricket as the newest partner to West Indies cricket,” she said. “JetBlue is a respected brand and we are thrilled they have chosen to support West Indies cricket in such a meaningful way. This agreement will create some exciting new opportunities for our fantastic fans.”

JetBlue’s president and CEO, Robin Hayes, is looking forward to expanding its presence in the region.

“JetBlue prides itself on being a good partner in every community that we serve,” he said. “That is why we’re proud to support cricket, as it is a cherished sport in the region. JetBlue now offers the most flights to the Caribbean, and so we look forward to being the airline of choice for North American fans to see their favorite teams at the matches.”

As part of the agreement between the WICB and JetBlue, several cricket fans attending the Test matches will win return tickets from their home base in the Caribbean to New York.

Matches for the Wisden Trophy Series were held at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium in Antigua; the National Cricket Stadium in Grenada and Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The Frank Worrell Trophy Series will be played from June 3 to June 15 with matches at Windsor Park in Dominica and Sabina Park in Jamaica.
