Veteran actor Marvin L. Ishmael has been nominated for a Gemini Award (Prix Gémeaux).
Ishmael, an assistant professor of theatre (acting) at the Academy for the Performing Arts, University of Trinidad & Tobago, was nominated for his role in the comedy series “Ces Gars La”, where he plays the father of internationally-renowned comedian, Sugar Sammy.
Ishmael has been actively engaged in film, television and stage for the past 35 years. He is the founding artistic director of We Are One Theatre and has played Oberon, Othello, Caliban, Gremio and the King of France in Shakespeare’s productions as well as Felix in The Odd Couple, Victor Mehta in Hare’s Map of the World, Madan in the Broadway production of Bombay Dreams and over 40 other productions. He has guest-starred on numerous television series and appeared in recurring roles on “DeGrassi: The Next Generation”, “Testees”, “11 Cameras” as well as “Ces Gars La”.
The Prix Gémeaux is the French-language equivalent to the Gemini Awards. It is held to present awards honouring French-language television and has been sponsored by the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television since 1985.
The 31st Gemini Awards will be held on Sunday, September 18 on CBC.
