Jamaica50 anniversary celebrations to be launched at Christie Pitts on Victoria Day

This Victoria Day will see the launch of Jamaica50 Celebration Inc.’s Summer Sintings, a free afternoon event with Jamaican-style music, food, games and performances.

Attendees will be the first to hear “Jump for Jamaica”, a song created by singer-songwriter Courtney John and deejay Mr. Lexx, as well as the opportunity to see “The Jump” dance debut featuring choreographer Kevin Ormsby and The Jump Crew.

Hosted by Marcia Brown, guest speakers include Jamaica50 Committee Co-Chair, Joe Halstead, Jamaica Consul in Toronto, Nadine Mendez, MPP for Scarborough-Guildwood, Margarett Best and Jamaican Canadian Music Ambassador, Jay Douglas.

In addition to the dance group The Jump Crew, DJ Doc, Muhtadi International Drumming Festival Drummers and Kester Griffiths of the Pathfinder Club Marching Band will perform.

Fashion model Stacey Mackenzie and celebrity judge Carla Moore will also be in attendance.

Join Jamaica50 at Summer Sintings to celebrate Jamaican culture at Christie Pits Park, 750 Bloor Street West, on Monday, May 21 (Victoria Day) from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
