There were no judges, no flamboyant costumes and no big mas’ bands.
Regardless, young revellers strutted their stuff and had a grand time last Saturday in the inaugural Caribana Arts Group (CAG) junior parade in the Jane & Finch community.
Trinidad & Tobago’s consul general, Dr. Vidhya Tota-Maharaj (centre in bottom photo), participated in the parade that ended at Yorkgate Mall where there were cultural performances and an Idol contest.
North Albion Collegiate Institute graduate, Deandrea Kelly (at right), finished third in the Idol showcase that attracted over 40 contestants. Kelly was among five finalists.
“I had a great time here today,” said Kelly, who intends to pursue Business Management Studies. “Music is my passion and I want to wake up every morning and be happy with what I am doing.”
Kelly was a second and third place finisher in the Toronto District School Board Idol Challege in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Photos by Ron Fanfair
