Two weeks ago, Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller labelled the continuing spread of the Chikungunya virus and the global threat of the Ebola virus a national emergency.
The Jamaican Diaspora and Friends Health Sector has discussed with the Minister of Health, Dr. Fenton Ferguson, how best the Diaspora can assist with the effort to contain the spread of the Chikungunya virus and prepare for the detection, control and containment of Ebola if it comes to Jamaica.
Dr. Ferguson has requested assistance in the procurement of three items as follows:
- Laser type thermometers to be used at the ports of entry for detecting persons with a fever.
- Mosquito nets
- Ebola kit-personal protective equipment
The specification of the thermometers are as follows:
- Extech Infrared 200 Non-Contact Forehead Thermometer for $99.90 each.
The Jamaican Diaspora Canada Foundation is seeking your assistance in purchasing some of these items. We have started out by ordering 10 of these thermometers.
We are also exploring sources from which the other two items can be obtained and the pricing of those items. We seek your financial support to purchase these items.
