The JAMBANA One World Festival is renowned for displaying the vibrancy of Canada’s cultural mosaic through music, dance, food, culture, information and ‘edutainment’. Now in its fifth year, the family-friendly event is a perfect way to have fun on the civic holiday.
This year’s festival, produced by Jones and Jones Productions, is being held at a new location – the Markham Fairgrounds.
“Markham Fairgrounds has been a welcoming venue and we are delighted to be housed in this venue,” said Jones & Jones President, Denise Jones.
Jamaica’s King of Comedy, Oliver Samuels, will be the event’s lead host. In addition, as JAMBANA friends and family have come to expect – a special guest will be “passing through!”
The JAMBANA One World Festival will feature several villages, ensuring fun for all. The Entertainment Village will feature performances by internationally acclaimed reggae bands and JUNO Award winners, accompanied by the rhythms of Soca, Calypso, Jazz and Gospel. Among the artistes performing are Byron Lee’s Dragonaires, the St. James Town steel band, Ammoye, Mountain Edge, Steele, Yellowman, Nadine Sutherland, Pat Kelly and more. In addition, Chester Miller will lead a special tribute to the late great Prince of Reggae, Dennis Brown.
One of the best ways to experience the festival is from the VIP Village. VIP’s will be seated in close proximity to the stage, receive a meal, a drink and an exclusive swag bag.
Featured attractions include the Food Village, which will provide a variety of culinary delights not only from Jamaica, but from the rest of the Caribbean as well; the Children’s Village, which will include face painting, balloon artists and rides; and the Education and Edutainment Village, which will feature the works of Africans from around the world over the last 400 years.
The Health Village is designed to raise awareness on the benefits of staying healthy and provide health tips. It will provide information about diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, glaucoma, breast cancer and other diseases.
