HAVANA, Cuba: Health and sports are two key areas of cooperation for Cuba and Suriname under new agreements signed recently to ratify their willingness to consolidate relations between the two governments.
Cuban medical assistance for the CARICOM country and possibilities to strengthen cooperation in this field were assessed by Cuban ambassador Julio Solis and Surinamese Health Minister Michel Blokland, during a recent meeting in Paramaribo.
They assessed the efforts made by their states in order for a group of Cuban specialists to begin to perform eye surgeries in the Surinamese capital, the Cuban Ministry of Exterior Relations reported on its website last Friday.
In a similar exchange, Sports and Youth Minister, Ismanto Adna, thanked Solis for the work carried out by Cuban trainers who encourage massive practice of sports in new generations in several Surinamese communities.
Adna spoke about the possibility of firming up other cooperation agreements in several sport modalities and disciplines.
He also updated the diplomat about the first steps of the project of the Regional Sports Institute, resulting from the agreements reached at the 4th Cuba-CARICOM Summit held in December in Trinidad and Tobago.
