For over 30 years De Regulars Arts and Cultural Group has added swirling colours and their distinctive steel drum sounds to Caribana. Now the Band is ready to reveal its spectacular theme and costumes for this year’s Toronto carnival.

The 2014 carnival costume launch takes place this weekend, June 7, at the Howard Johnson Hotel in Scarborough (Warden & 401). This fundraising event features a dance party, fashion show, sweet Soca sounds, authentic Trinidadian treats and an exclusive presentation by De Regulars’ award-winning design team. Tickets are $20 and are available at or at the door.
Competition is fierce and the prizes coveted, so while the Costume Launch features 16 amazing costumes representing nine different full sections of 50-100 revellers, don’t expect to see the King and Queen costumes. What attendees will see are the results of over 240 hours of design and production – and countless sequins.

In the five years De Regulars has been competing in the costume category, the band remains the most cost friendly competitors – with costumes retailing at $175 vs. the typical $250+ of other bands – and 100% Canadian made, shunning the growing trend of bands sending their costume production work to China.

Last year, in their first year competing at the King and Queen Costume Competition, De Regulars’ design of the “Female Individual” won third place.
