Canada will begin play tomorrow in the International Basketball Federation Under-18 Americas tournament in c.
The national junior team faces Brazil tomorrow, the Dominican Republic on Saturday and Puerto Rico on Sunday.
The squad includes forwards Chris Egi and Dillon Brooks of Markham and Mississauga respectively and guard Montaque Gill-Caeser, who resides in Vaughan.
Head coach Roy Rana said the squad is prepared for the competition.
“We’re pleased with the progress the team has made over the course of the training camp,” said Rana. “These athletes have shown outstanding work ethic and commitment to the team to solidify their spots on our final roster.”
Canada Basketball’s executive vice-president and assistant general manager, Rowan Barrett, said this is the first time many of the players will be representing Canada.
“This will be a tremendous opportunity for growth and development, with the goal of qualifying for the 2015 U19 World Championships in Greece,” he said.
