Members of the community are asked to come out to Queen’s Park on Saturday, May 29 to support the kids of Camp Jumoke by raising funds, walking or enjoying the food, fun and festivities at the organization’s 16th Annual Turtle Walk – a 6 km route through downtown Toronto. Registration is from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and the Walk begins at 12:01 p.m.
A wide range of performers will help heat up the event, including Gospel singer Renee Rowe, opera singer Romulo Delgado, violinist Andrew Ford, rapper Subliminal and the Quincy Bullen Band.
A number of health promoters and professionals will also be on site as part of a Wellness Village to educate, inform and raise awareness.
And there will be food vendors to tempt the taste buds with mouth-watering cuisine from around the globe.
This year’s goal is to have each Turtle Walker raise $200 in pledges.
Pledge forms can be ordered by calling the Camp Jumoke office at (416) 410-2995, or by going to the website, www.jumoke.org.
Funds raised will help to send 40 children with sickle cell anemia to summer camp in 2010. The organization’s goal is $80,000.
