Rock Steady with Merritone this weekend

Merritone Music is the name that started what we know today as the Soundsystem.  Winston “MERRITONE” Blake, son of the founding father of Merritone Music, Val Blake, is now celebrating his 60th Anniversary in the business.

Merritone has been playing Music for 60 years and his fan base just continues to grow. He started in Jamaica from Morant Bay to Kingston, then onto North America and Europe. From the Turntable Club (known as Jamaica’s Best Nightclub to date) and VIP he discovered artists such as the Mighty Diamonds, Jacob Miller and Beres Hammond, to name a few.

To the music industry, Winston “Merri” Blake is a DJ, an advisor, producer, innovator, a music fan, not to mention a promoter, having hosted his 13th Annual Merritone Outdoor Picnic and Family Fun Day, just weeks ago in Connecticut which brought out over 4,000 fans.

This Caribana Saturday July 31, fans can “Rock Steady” with Winston “Merritone” Blake alongside Rosa (Soul To Soul) and introducing Love Jones Music featuring Jermaine Jones. The event includes dinner and comedy for the price of $40 in advance.

Promoters Jermaine Jones (Jones Suave Ent.) and Ron Brathwaite (Culture Concepts) have been promoting events such as dances, comedy shows, boat cruises and concerts in Toronto for over 16 years.

“We’ve been fortunate over the years to create some of the most memorable events that have taken place in our city and we think this will be right up there as one of the best. There is a demand for an event of this caliber and what better time to bring it, than Caribana.

“We plan on raising the bar with this event. When the night is over, we want everybody leaving feeling great and looking forward to the next one.”
