The Drake Hotel will be humming with the sounds of live jazz music in a fundraising effort for the York/Westview Partnership and the Youth Association for Academics, Athletics and Character Education (YAAACE) on Sunday, June 14 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Originating in 1992, The York/Westview Partnership is a program that provides access to post-secondary education for students in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood who experience systemic barriers to continuing their education. Since its inception, the program has grown to serve approximately 1800 students annually and expanded to include various educational institutions as partners. Currently, all of Jane-Finch’s 22 public schools and one Catholic secondary school participate in the program which is spearheaded by entertainer, Jackie Robinson, who is also a professor of Urban Education at York University.
The YAAACE is a youth organization founded by community organizers, Devon Thompson and Devon Jones. With the goal of fostering a culture of high academic achievement and social and civic responsibility among youth in the Jane-Finch area, the organization engages youth in various academic and recreational activities.
The fundraiser will consist of a cocktail reception, silent auction, and music from Juno-Award winner Eddie Bullen and vocalist Liberty Silver.
