The series runs every weekend at various venues in Toronto each night featuring a different cast of singers and live bands performing Calypso in its best storytelling tradition – social and political commentary, humour and wit.

TUESDAY, JULY 14

Caribana Tent Villages Goes To Nathan Phillips Square

Experience the rhythms and vibes of Scotiabank Caribana and join in the celebration of the creative spirit of Caribbean carnivals and festival traditions with mas’, steel pan, and calypso music. Find out about the various Caribana events and other events happening in and around Toronto.

The official ceremony launches the activities for the Scotiabank Caribana Festival Season. It is a snapshot of what’s in store over the coming weeks.

SATURDAY, JULY 18

Junior Carnival

Yorkgate Mall

10:00 p.m. – 04:00 p.m.

Junior Carnival provides festival goers and the surrounding community the opportunity to experience the trills and joys as young masqueraders participate in their early festival years.

“KAISO 365″ CALYPSO MONARCH FINALS

Queen Elizabeth Theatre, CNE

7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

This is where the Calypso Monarch is crowned. Come and see the best and most exciting Canadian Calypsonians battle for the crown. From the topical to the lyrical, the sweet soca rhythms will lift you out of your seat and get you moving.

ART EXHIBITION – July 23 – August 3

“Beyond the Rhythm” A Visual Art presentation of 50 works on canvas, celebrating our survival and accomplishments, beyond the bounds of hardship and sorrow.

SCOTIABANK CARIBANA™ GALA

6:30 p.m.

An evening of elegance celebrating Carnival Music and Arts.

Wednesday, July 29

CLASH OF THE CALYPSO TENTS

Venue TBD

7:30 p.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Enjoy the lyrical and topical compositions of two rival casts of singers vying to have the last word in the calypso season’s final musical showdown. Enjoy the humour and social commentary of this storytelling art form, topped off with some picong – an ex tempo duel in true calypso style.

Thursday, July 30

KING & QUEEN SHOW

Lamport Stadium

7:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight

On the Thursday night before the Scotiabank Caribana Parade, all the Kings and Queens of the Bands meet to do battle. Like peacocks they will primp and preen, eliciting oohs and aahs from the audience. It is an honour for any reveler to be enthroned the King or Queen of his or her band.

Friday, July 31

PAN ALIVE

Lamport Stadium

7:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

A thrilling evening showcasing the musical and tonal qualities of the steel pan, as members of the Ontario Steelband Association compete before a panel of judges.

Saturday, August 1

SCOTIABANK CARIBANA PARADE

Exhibition Place & Lakeshore Blvd.

10:00 a.m. – 06:00 p.m.

This showcase event features an incredible display of colours and pageantry. Toronto will come alive with the sights and sounds of Carnival.

CARIBANA TENT THEATRES @ MARILYN BELL PARK

Marilyn Bell Park

10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Be entertained by our hottest soca and calypso artists as you relax and enjoy the glorious Parade of masquerade bands along Lakeshore Blvd. Come feel the pulse of the drums and hear the musical history of the Caribbean carnival traditions – from kalinda and kaiso to bele and mento.

CARIBANA AFTER PARADE FUSION

Lamport Stadium

8:00 p.m. – 12:00 midnight

After having fun on the Lakeshore, come and enjoy a spectacular openair evening concert celebrating carnival music in all the latest flavours.

Sunday, August 2

DE SCOTIABANK CARIBANA LIME

Olympic Island

12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m.

This event will highlight the various cultures of all of the Caribbean people. It’s a celebration of food, song, dance, theatrical drama and story telling.

Monday, August 3

CARIBANA TENT VILLAGES GOES TO ONTARIO PLACE

Ontario Place

12:00 noon – 9:00 p.m.

Enter the fantasy world of Scotiabank Caribana Masquerade bands, as we invite you to follow a Disneystyled parade through this major tourist attraction.

Experience the artistry of carnival costumes and dance to the magical sounds of steel pan music on the water. Bring your family to wander the grounds with Caribbean roaming music bands and traditional carnival characters.
