With their dazzling costumes and youthful exuberance, the young people put on quite a show at the kiddies carnival last Saturday.
Some 2,000 revellers paraded down Shoreham Ave. and down Jane St. to Yorkgate Mall in the Jane and Finch area to sweet Caribbean rhythms in hot sunshine.
A total of 14 bands took part in the parade.
Toronto Revellers, under bandleader Jamaal Magloire, stole the spotlight winning the Parade of the Bands award for its theme Welcome to Oz. Dexter Seusahai’s Tribal Knights was second with the theme Legends while Carnival Nationz, led by Marcus Eustace, was third. Their theme was Mythical Creatures.
Jalen Gause of Toronto Revellers won the Male Individual award for his portrayal of The Timid King. Maven Lee of Mas Toronto and Courtney St. Louis of Tribal Knights were second and third respectively.
Anastasia LaRose, also of Toronto Revellers, captured the Female Individual award for her presentation of Good Witch of the North. Tribal Knights’ Canisha Edwards, who portrayed Lost Treasurers and Sariah Seon of Mas Toronto followed.
Dekemo Minott of Carnival Nation will wear the King’s crown for the next year for his portrayal of The Gryphon. He finished ahead of Fabian Lee of Mas Toronto and Ty Williamson of Toronto Revellers.
Calena Seusahai of Tribal Knights captured the Queen title for her Cleopatra presentation. Rebecca Martinez of Blues Carnival Fusion and Shanisse Kaolo-Jackson of Fantazia International were second and third.
