Fundraising barbecue to remember drowned youth

On June 18, 2011, 14-year-old Malcolm Gyamfi lost his life while swimming in a lake at a church camp he was attending.

Malcolm’s tragic passing has deeply affected the North York community. A Grade Eight student at Elia Middle School who aspired to be an actor, Malcolm was known for his upbeat demeanor and good sense of humour. He was active in athletics, in particular basketball. Sadly, he was buried on the day of his middle school graduation.

Parents of Malcolm’s schoolmates at Elia Middle School have teamed up with friends and members of the community to host a fundraising barbecue in his honour. The event is being held to provide Malcolm’s family with support and to help establish an award to be given annually to a well-deserving student in Malcolm’s memory.

The fundraising barbecue will be held on Thursday, July 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at University City Recreational Centre, 453 Sentinel Road, (Finch Ave. West & Sentinel Road). Please come and support in any way you can.
