Jamaicans from across the Diaspora – Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and other regions of the world – will join with a local delegation from June 15 to 17 for the fourth biennial Jamaican Diaspora Convention, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
The 2011 Convention will be held at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort & Spa in Ocho Rios, under the theme: One Nation: Jamaica and its Diaspora in Partnership.
Jamaican Prime Minister, Bruce Golding, will be the guest speaker at the opening ceremony. A much anticipated event will be the Governor General’s Diaspora Awards, which will be presented by Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen.
Important topics for this year’s Convention include, among other things: Diaspora/Jamaica Partnership for Development through Education Transformation and Healthcare for Jamaicans at home and abroad.
The Convention will provide an opportunity for the Diaspora community to engage in direct dialogue with the new minister with responsibility for Diaspora Affairs, Senator Marlene Malahoo Forte, Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
