Forty students from George Harvey Collegiate Institute and Archbishop Romero Catholic Secondary School were in the GTA’s west end recently to watch their teams compete in the Stone Soup Cooking Club’s second annual cook-off.
The event was held at Celco Canada’s headquarters in Mississauga, where judges were impressed by the knowledge and culinary craft of both teams. However, it was the team from George Harvey that earned bragging rights by beating Archbishop Romero by three points.
The Stone Soup Cooking Club was founded in 2006 as a way to address the nutritional needs of high school students and introduce the hospitality industry as a possible career choice. Each week, guest chefs are challenged to create a mouth-watering meal – that is accessible to even the tightest budget – and then teach members how to prepare it.
Student-chefs were judged on their performance in the kitchen, taste and presentation.
